With the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams finalizing the list of players that they wish to retain, the stage is set for a mega-auction in the month of December. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj. Now the big question before the franchise is who would be the next captain of RCB as Virat Kohli announced that he would not be continuing as the captain of RCB.
Former coach, Daniel Vettori has said that Kohli would have a big say in deciding the new captain. The former Kiwi believes that Glenn Maxwell would be the new captain of RCB.

“He (Maxwell) will be the likely heir to Kohli. He produced the goods last year and he was an exceptional player for them. He has the experience of captaining the Melbourne Stars. We talked about most teams wanting to find a captain when they retain players,” Vettori told ESPNCricinfo.
Vettori added that Maxwell could be made captain for just one season. “I think it has happened too often that teams have to figure out a way, know whom to find in the auction, which can cloud your thinking at times. So I do believe that Maxwell will be named captain. It could be just for one season… to see how it goes but it’s a pretty good stop-gap measure built for the future,” Vettori added.
RCB’s previous season was a story of two halves with the first half being a really good one for Kohli-led RCB, but the second phase of the IPL proven to be a bad one for the franchise. RCB could not convert their early momentum into silverware and failed to win a trophy for a straight 14th time.
Vettori said that Maxwell and Kohli have a similar demeanour and thus would wok in favor of the franchise.
“I think that there is a reward for a performance. I’m sure Kohli had a huge say in this. He wanted to set the way to allow someone that he didn’t really interact with to come in and lead the team. So I can see Kohli and Maxwell being in good spirits. They have been aggressive on the field and have similar demeanours. I believe that it would have played a part. We can speculate a little but it seems like the likely scenario,” added Vettori.
RCB would go in the mega-auction with a purse of 57 crore rupees.
