India New T20 Captain Ashish Nehra Picks New India T20 Skipper After Virat Kohli For Ind Vs NZ Series

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is set to get a new skipper after the T20 World Cup. Current skipper Virat Kohli had announced to step down as India’s T20 captain after the marquee event in UAE.

Meanwhile, former India speedster Ashish Nehra has picked his next T20 skipper of India to replace Virat Kohli. Nehra believes Jasprit Bumrah should be given the chance to lead team India in the shortest format as he is the only player to play in all three formats for Team India, while KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have had to miss out in one or the other formats due to various reasons.

“After Rohit Sharma, we are hearing the names of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul [as contenders]. Rishabh Pant has traveled around the world but has also carried drinks and has even been left out from the team before. KL Rahul returned to Test cricket because Mayank Agarwal was injured… So Jasprit Bumrah can be an option too. As Ajay [Jadeja] said, he’s sturdy, a certainty in the team, and is always in the XI for all formats. It’s nowhere written in the rule book that fast bowlers can’t be captains,” Nehra told Cricbuzz.

According to media reports, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are the frontrunners for India’s T20 captaincy. Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not made any official announcement yet, reports also suggest that the board may announce the new captain next week when it announces the squad for the home T20I series against New Zealand.
