Lalu Yadav found guilty in fodder scam case

Special CBI Court sentenced RJD chief Lalu Yadav and awarded a sentence of three and half years in jailon on 6th January 2018. The court also awarded a fine of rupees 10 lakhs. Along with Shri Lalu Yadav three retired IAS officers have also been awarded three and half years imprisonment. These IAS officers are Sri Mahesh Prasad, Sri Phoolchand Singh and Sri Beck Julius. This three people have also been awarded fine of rupees 5 lakh each. This judgment is a setback for Shri Lalu Yadav. He will now be confined to the sideline of state and national politics for quite a long while. Shri Lalu Yadav has already been convicted in another fodder scam case and was sentenced for 5 years in jail. Due to this earlier sentence he was already disqualified from contesting polls for 11 years. As per current rules anyone who is convicted for 2 years or more cannot contest elections and cannot hold public office after he has served the sentence
After this sentence was awarded by the CBI Court Shri Lalu Yadav declared that he is a victim of BJP politics. Point to note here is that this case started not during BJP’s tenure but when Sri Divya Gowda was the prime minister of India. So blaming BJP does not appear justified.
The CBI Court found these people guilty under Prevention of Corruption Act for which they were awarded three and half years in jail and additional fine ranging from Rs Five Lakhs to Rs 10 Lakhs each.
It is expected that now the Council of Shri Lalu Prasad Yadav will appeal and move the High Court to reverse this judgment.
