New Rules for UP Madarsa Holidays

Recently UP government had issued new rules for UP Madarsa holidays. Sometime ago an instruction was issued for madarsas that they will render the national anthem and also video graph it on Independence Day. Further to this policy of making madarsa education modern, the UP Government has now issued an instruction as per which the discretionary holidays given in Muslim festivals have been reduced. Instruction has made it essential for madarsas to remain closed on festivals of other faiths also. Till now madarsas were closed only during Muslim festivals. The exceptions were holiday for Holi festival and Ambedkar Jayanti. However as per this new instruction Mahavir Jayanti, Buddha Purnima, Raksha Bandhan, Mahanavami, Diwali, Dussehra and Christmas will also be holidays in the madarsas. So now 7 new holidays have been added and the 10 discretionary holidays given to madarsas have been reduced to 4 days as per UP Government new regulation. The government feels that students studying in madarsas should know about great people of other faiths also. However the Islamic Madarsa Modernization Teachers Association has commented that madarsas are religious Institutions and therefore there should not be rule forcing them to have different kind of leave around minority events for which discretionary leave was used.
