Wrestler Nisha Dahiya, Her Brother Shot Dead By Unidentified Assailants In Haryana, Mother Also Attacked

New Delhi: National level wrestler Nisha Dahiya and her brother were shot dead on Wednesday by an unidentified assailant at Sushil Kumar Academy in Haryana’s Sonepat. During the incident, Nisha Dahiya’s mother was also injured and her condition remains critical. She has been admitted to PGI Hospital in Rohtak. Police reached the spot and have sent bodies of Nisha Dahiya and her brother Suraj for postmortem to Sonipat’s civil hospital.

According to media reports, an unidentified assailant opened fire on Nisha Dahiya and her brother at Sushil Kumar Academy located in Halalpur, Sonepat. Both siblings died on spot, while the condition of the mother remains critical.

Police are investigating the incident and the reason behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained. Nisha had won a bronze medal in the 65 kg weight category at the Wrestling Under-23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on Friday.

Recently, PM Narendra Modi had praised Nisha along with other women wrestlers for their outstanding performance.

“Congratulations to Shivani, Anju, Divya, Radhika and Nisha for winning medals at the Wrestling Championships in Belgrade. Their performance is special and will contribute to wrestling becoming even more popular across India,” the PM had tweeted.
